A Personal Story

At BCG I am constantly faced with new problems, industries, clients, and teams. Just when I think I’ve mastered my role, a new challenge comes along. I wouldn’t trade it for anything else and it is a non-stop learning opportunity.

One of my most memorable learning experiences was a BCG ambassadorship to the Amsterdam office. I worked in a different cultural context and lived independently in a foreign country. I also experienced the diversity that Europe offers from a well-positioned Dutch base.

Background

Ching Fong joined the BCG Kuala Lumpur office in 2000, after some time with another consulting company. He has a bachelor of commerce (accounting and information systems) from the University of New South Wales (Sydney), and is a certified practicing accountant (CPA Australia).

A Personal Story

I came to BCG after working for a competing firm for nearly 20 years. Why did I join? I joined because BCG provides an unparalleled platform that enables consultants to make a real difference to their clients, and to themselves—values that BCG holds firm to its heart. The deep experience within the company and extensive learning opportunities combine to create the unique environment that enables consultants to develop into highly effective business leaders. Since joining BCG, I continue to be impressed by the quality and caliber of my colleagues, their passion to do the right thing for our clients, and the business success stories we are creating.

Background

Tony joined the BCG Singapore office in 2008 from another consulting firm where he headed up the Telecom practice in Asia. He has lived in Asia since 1993 and has advised more than 20 fixed and mobile operators across ten countries: working with clients on growth and marketing strategies, market entry, corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, process re-engineering, and organizational development. Tony has an MA in engineering from Cambridge University.

A Personal Story

When I was close to completing my PhD my supervisor set up a high tech start-up company to commercialize our research on semiconducting polymers and asked me to join. The invitation raised an important question for me: How can we transfer our significant scientific insights into a product that will succeed in the market? I had a lot of technical expertise but recognized my lack of business experience. As a result I declined the offer and joined BCG with the objective of moving into the high-tech industry within a couple of years.

Many years later, BCG has become much more than a place to get business exposure. Shaping the future of entire industries has proven more fascinating and rewarding. It is what drives me.

Most recently, I’ve been part of transforming important parts of the global mining sector. I cannot imagine a better place for me to be.

Background

Alexander joined BCG’s Berlin office in 2000 where he worked throughout Europe for five years. In 2005 he transferred to Southeast Asia’s Bangkok office and following a relocation to the Singapore office in 2008, Alexander has continued to work throughout Asia in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macao, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia. He holds a PhD and MPhil in Physics from the University of Cambridge and a Master in Physics from the University of Aachen (RWTH). He is a core group member of the Industrial Goods and Marketing & Sales and Operations Practice Areas.

A Personal Story

After three years as a solicitor, I wanted something different—a career that offered continuous learning with room for independence and creativity. After an MBA, I joined BCG. This was definitely the right career move for me. I have worked with clients on a variety of business issues, in industries ranging from financial services to pharmaceuticals, and oil and gas. I have also defined a career path that works for me, which includes taking on non-client-facing roles when I need to be more available at home for my young children.

Background

Azah has an honors degree in law from the International Islamic University, Malaysia, and an MBA from Imperial College, University of London. She now works primarily with both private and public sector clients in Malaysia.
