BCG ambassador's view...

Maurice Berns - Ambassador and Consultant from BCG New York

"Aqui, lo vamos a pasar bien!" My wife's first words as we stepped out of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport captured our feelings precisely: "We are really going to enjoy ourselves here..." The warm air and sunshine provided a stark - and welcome - contrast to the cold and snow we had left behind 24 hours earlier in New York. Malaysia really is a tropical paradise, with its great climate, lush vegetation, top-notch infrastructure, beautiful architecture, vast skyline, diverse cuisine, great beaches ... The list goes on, but you have to live here to understand and appreciate it.

The people of BCG KL have been incredibly welcoming. The office hosts an Ambassador practically every year, so it is no surprise that KL is famous throughout the BCG system. Coming from one of BCG's larger offices, I found it a great experience to get to know everyone in the office within a matter of 2 weeks. In addition, we were very happy to find that the three Vice Presidents have eight kids between them. This certainly bodes well for a family-friendly environment - something very important to us, as we arrived with one small child and another on the way!

BCG KL has a good mix of clients in diverse industries - energy, financial services, industrial and consumers goods, to name a few. Working in the region has also been a fantastic experience, one that I hope will continue throughout our stay.

Unfortunately, we are scheduled to return to New York at the end of the year. With all that we still want to see and do, the year seems very short! As a previous Ambassador told us, the toughest part about moving to KL, is moving away from KL.
